The Project

Students at Whitburn Academy promoting Be HerdThe Be Herd project focused on raising awareness and removing the stigma of mental health issues.

As part of the initiative a new Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub was created in Whitburn Academy.

Through the Hub pupils have access to curated resources on mental health issues.

A welcoming and comfortable room, it is used by students as a quiet space where they can talk to an Elefriend – a student Mental Health Ambassador.   

Project Summary

The Hub at Whitburn AcademyThe Hub continues to support students daily. The collection of books and other resources is monitored carefully and new additions are added as needed.

Reading for pleasure is encouraged and books are carefully selected to match the needs of the borrower.  

Throughout the project Whitburn Academy held memorable and thought-provoking house assembles where pupils and staff shared personal stories of events that had directly impacted on their mental health. 

Pupils also held a concert which was attended by local dignitaries and attended the Scottish Parliament to address MSPs to raise awareness of the importance of mental health.
