An Individual Forth Valley College Project

The Project

Forth Valley CollegeThe project aimed to enhance the experience and skills of the Time4Me student group at Forth Valley College. The Time4Me Project was initially funded by the Robertson Trust and offers students who are Care Experienced, Adult Carers, Young Adult Carers or SIMD10 the opportunity to gain extra support and mentoring.

Back to the Books & looking to the Future created innovative Book Group sessions held within the Learning Resource Centre helping to develop confidence, enhance communication and improve literary skills. Novels, stationery and a wide range of activities were provided to support students.

A central theme to every Book Group session was inclusion - bringing together students who might otherwise be social isolated.

Project Summary

Forth Valley College Reading AreaBack to the Books & Looking to the Future encouraged students in the Time4Me programme to develop confidence as well as communication and literacy skills while at the same time reduce social isolation.

This has helped to raise awareness of the opportunities and diverse resources available within Forth Valley's Learning Resource Centres. Students have benefited from the innovative and creative Book Groups in a number of ways, not least having a positive impact of their wellbeing.

There is now scope for the project to be widened to include the wider college community in the future.
