The Mobile Libraries in Scotland Report outlines Scottish mobile library provision in 2024 and updates Libraries on the Move which was published in 2019.
It takes a look at how mobile library services adapted during the pandemic, current usage levels, the vehicles and greener options, costs, and possible alternatives to public access mobile librares.
The report is based on desk research, survey results, interviews with library staff, and analysis of data from various sources to assess changes in provision in the last five years.
Scottish Government support to invest in modern, ICT equipped, and possibly electric public access vehicles is one of the report's main recommendations, to enable these valuable services to continue.
