Party leaders from across the Scottish Parliament came together following First Minister’s Questions yesterday (1 October) to show their support for Wee Read, Scotland’s national reading moment taking place on Wednesday 7 October.
John Swinney, First Minister and SNP leader; Kenneth Gibson, presiding officer; Michael Marra, Scottish Labour leader; Angela Ross, Reform UK education spokesperson; Gillian Mackay, Scottish Greens co-leader; Alex Cole-Hamilton, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader; and Russell Findlay, Scottish Conservative leader joined together to show their support for Scotland’s national reading moment.

Wee Read is a Scottish Library and Information Council campaign, funded by the Scottish Government and supported by libraries, culture and literacy partners across Scotland as part of the National Year of Reading 2026.
The campaign is inviting everyone in Scotland, whatever their age, ability, interests or background, to find something they enjoy and make reading part of everyday life. Whether it’s a novel, comic, magazine, newspaper, recipe, audiobook or something else entirely, every read counts and local libraries are on hand to help people find their next read, with free access to a wide range of reading materials, resources and activities.
While the target of 50,000 pledges has now been exceeded a week ahead of the national reading moment, Wee Read is encouraging even more people across the country to make a little time for reading on 7 October – whether for five minutes or fifty – and share what they’re reading using #WeeRead26.
