Love Libraries is a nationwide campaign to encourage more people to join libraries and make use of all they have to offer. It focuses on the impact and value of libraries everywhere.
The campaign is organised by the National Library of Scotland and sector partners including the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals Scotland (CILIPS), the Association of Public Libraries Scotland (APLS), and the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL).
The Love Libraries campaign officially launched on Valentine’s Day 2025 and continued throughout the year. You can still download the Love Libraries Toolkit and use the resources to get involved and drum up enthusiasm for all things libraries.
This Valentines, The Scottish Library and Information Council has also helped to create a free Love Libraries School Pack. This new resource contains everything you need to help celebrate libraries in Schools including posters, bookmarks, bunting and a special edition of The Beano marking the National Library of Scotland’s centenary.
Get Involved
The Love Libraries Campaign Toolkit explains everything about the campaign and how you can get involved. It is also packed with ideas and top tips about how to engage with the campaign and make it work for you. You can join in the campaign through your usual channels and in more creative ways. For instance, you might wish to host a photocall with your local MSP or councillor. You could issue a press release, complemented with a success story specific to your library service. Other ideas include encouraging people to write a Valentine’s Card to their local library and bring it in, or to visit a library or borrow a book on February 14th.
Below you will find all the assets you need to take part. You can download social media assets, posters and other campaign materials such as logos and website banners. If you have any questions about the Love Libraries campaign you can get in touch by emailing info@scottishlibraries.org
