How are libraries across Europe adopting digital technologies and artificial intelligence? Where do they need stronger support?
The European Library Associations Network (ELAN) and Advancing Digital Empowerment of Libraries in Europe (ADELE) has created a Digital & AI Readiness Survey – the first Europe-wide assessment of how libraries are adopting digital technologies and AI.
The findings will inform future policy and capacity-building activities, and we want Scottish libraries to take part.
The survey is run by the Expert Group on Libraries for Digital Transformation under ELAN, a four-year project (2025–2028) led by the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA) and co-funded by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme.
It builds on the ADELE self-assessment framework, originally developed under Erasmus+, and now extends to artificial intelligence, data governance, and ethics. The survey adapts to your role – managers will get through the survey in 18-25 minutes, library staff in 15-20 minutes and library users in 5-8 minutes. Responses are anonymous and will directly inform European policy recommendations and capacity-building for the sector.
