The Innovation and Development Fund (IDF) supports pioneering library projects throughout Scotland. Introduced in 2005, it is aimed at members of the Scottish Library and Information Council who do not benefit from the Public Library Improvement Fund (PLIF).

The long-standing scheme funds innovative projects which support SLIC's four strategic objectives, namely: Advocacy, Standards, Innovation and Partnerships.

IDF funding is ideal for projects and activities which encourage creative service delivery and development, including the creation of new resources, research and staff training. Previous IDF Awards have included the creation of pop-up maker spaces, new library collections and digital literacy programmes. The successful bids showcase the rich variety of pioneering library projects happening in libraries throughout Scotland.
