Alan Clarke
Chair of the Scottish Library and Information Council
Alan is an experienced Chief Executive and Chair with a proven track record spanning the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. He has held various senior roles throughout his career including 22 Years as Chief Executive of three organisations including a Scottish Government Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB). He is passionate about lifelong learning and was a Director in Lifelong Learning UK and Chief Executive of a Sector Training Council. Alan is a budding author and drummer in a punk rock band.
Craig Vickery
Treasurer of the Scottish Library and Information Council
Craig is an independent consultant and trainer specialising in skills development, international relationships, and building sustainable business. He is a qualified accountant and a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Craig has extensive knowledge and experience of the finance and accounting sectors. He has 25 years of experience within a membership body culminating in ten years as Head of ACCA Scotland. Craig is a passionate advocate for access to skills development and lifelong learning.
Richmond Davies
Vice Chair
Richmond Davies is the Head of Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, and Data Protection Officer (DPO) at Public Health Scotland. Prior to this, he was their Head of Statistical & Information Governance and DPO.
Richmond has over 25 years of experience working for NHS Scotland in mental health roles. He also held positions in information management, data analysis, and policy. Richmond has held additional roles in academia and holds a PhD in Library and Information Science.
He is passionate about information literacy and behaviour. His current job involves translating data into evidence for action in addressing health inequalities and other public health challenges in Scotland. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics, a Member of the Royal Society for Public Health, and a Member of the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland.
Yvonne Barclay
Board Member
Yvonne is the Chair of the Association of Public Libraries in Scotland (APLS) and Library Development Manager for Aberdeen City Libraries.
She has over 40 years experience across various roles within Aberdeen City Libraries including Team Librarian Europe Direct, Information Librarian and Young People’s Librarian. She is a graduate of the Open University and Robert Gordon University and Chartered Member of CILIP.
Jennifer Bruce
Board Member
Jennifer is a Knowledge Specialist at Brodies LLP. She has over 20 years’ experience across the public, private and third sectors, including working as a list development manager in legal publishing and roles in research, digital content and public affairs.
Having worked at Citizens Advice Scotland, the Scottish Youth Parliament and the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe), she has a particular interest in social inclusion, youth voice and evidence-based decision making.
Shanti Graheli
Board Member
Shanti Graheli is Senior Lecturer in Comparative Literature at the University of Glasgow, with 15 years experience in research and Higher Education. She works on the circulation of books across borders and the role of libraries and information studies in the creation of knowledge in pre-modern Europe. As part of her research, she often visits libraries in different parts of the world, and she brings to the Board her experience of working in and with libraries across different languages and cultures. She is particularly interested in research policy and trends in research funding.
Lindsay Kinloch
Board Member
Lindsay Kinloch is known for her work with the Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD). She has 17 years of experience and has played a significant role in promoting awareness, understanding, and advocacy for individuals with learning disabilities and organisations in Scotland. Lindsay also works with Lead Scotland as a Sessional Trainer supporting their cyber-resilience project.
Lisa MacLaren
Board Member
Lisa has worked in the college sector for the last 27 years and currently holds the post of Learning Services Manager at Forth Valley College. She manages three Learning Resource Centres at campuses in Falkirk, Stirling and Alloa and is passionate about Digital Learning. Lisa, who started as a Learning Resource Assistant, is very well respected in her field, has a wealth of experience and professional qualifications and leads by example to help inspire her colleagues as they provide a Library Service, Flexible and Online Learning Portfolio, as well as 1-1 Additional Support Needs Service, to more than 12,000 FVC students
Martina McChrystal
Board Member
Martina McChrystal is Director of Library Services at the University of Glasgow. She has over 30 years of experience in public, and more recently, in academic libraries. Prior to joining the University of Glasgow, Martina was Libraries and Information Services Manager at The City of Edinburgh Council, where she was responsible for the council’s award-winning public library service. She is the current chair of the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL).
Martina is an external examiner for the School of Creative and Cultural Business at Robert Gordon University. She chaired the National School Library Strategy Advisory Group, leading to the publication of Vibrant Libraries, Thriving Schools – A National Strategy for School Libraries in Scotland 2018 -2023.
Alyson Mitchell
Board Member
Alyson recently retired from a career mainly split between BBC Scotland and Scottish Government. She originally trained as a journalist and worked as a producer and editor across a range of genres and media. During her time with Scottish Government her roles involved the strategic development and communication of policy initiatives.
Aileen Morton
Board Member
Aileen is currently Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer (Scotland) for Hospice UK. She has extensive experience in Information Technology.
Aileen was also a local councillor for ten years between 2012 and 2022 and spent three years as Leader of Argyll and Bute Council.
Amina Shah
Board Member
Amina is the National Librarian and Chief Executive of the National Library of Scotland. She has over 25 years of experience in a wide range of executive and non-executive roles both in the library sector and Scottish arts sector.
Previous positions include Chief Executive Officer of the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) and Assistant Director of Libraries and Museums at the University of St Andrews.
Robert Sulivan
Board Member
Robert is Principal Consultant at Acorn Learning Ltd. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). An economist and Business School academic, Robert has worked in the Civil Service, Business Schools, Local Government, and the Private Sector at an international level.
Jenna Young
Board Member
Jenna is a Planning Manager at NHS Grampian, with a focus on strategic planning. She has worked in the NHS since 2010 in various roles across Planning and Public Health. Jenna is passionate about libraries and specifically access to books and learning.
