The winning picture features members of the Trust’s Book Blether club dancing in a conga line out of one of their mobile libraries. The club meets up regularly on the mobile and members thought it the perfect way to finish off their session on what was a very cold day.
The Trust will receive £500 for bookstock from the Scottish Library and Information Service, which launched Scotland’s first every Mobile Libraries Day on November 20th 2019.
The day was established to ensure mobile library services continue to be a valued part of public library provision in Scotland. There are currently 49 mobile libraries throughout the country operated by 22 library services including High Life Highland, the Scottish Borders and the Western Isles.
Research commissioned by SLIC has found that mobile library services are greatly values by users, who described them as a ‘lifeline’. Libraries on The Move found that 98% of mobile library users rated the service as either very or extremely valuable.
Throughout Mobile Library Day 2019 Scottish public library services took part in a social media campaign to help highlight their mobile libraries. You can find out more about the campaign by reading our Mobile Libraries Day Toolkit, which was created to help support public library services.
