Towards the end of 2015 the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) made a successful bid for funding to the Scottish Government to introduce 3D printing in public libraries.

This new technology had already been incorporated in a few library services where it was supporting a wide range of activities, and extending the digital offer to new audiences. The additional funding would provide the opportunity to expand and develop this growing area of interest and skills development to all Scottish library services, thereby increasing accessibility.

The inclusion of 3D printing activities would help to support the recommendations of Ambition and Opportunity, A National Strategy for Public Libraries.
