Gordon's Biography

Gordon is a Chartered Librarian with extensive experience in the information sector, starting his career as a graduate trainee at the Brotherton Library at Leeds University. He has held positions at Gonville & Caius College Cambridge, Westminster College Oxford, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) and the National Library of Scotland. 

In 2008 Gordon moved to the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) as the University Librarian. After undertaking seconded roles as Campus Director of the new UWS Ayr Campus and Director of Planning and Management Information Services, he became the University’s Head of External Engagement in 2014.  

In his current role Gordon works with a wide range of external partners, including local authorities, the third sector, schools and colleges to establish and maintain partnerships that support the UWS mission to transform lives and communities in the West of Scotland and beyond.  

As well as Chairing the SLIC Board, he is Vice Chair of the Ayrshire College Foundation. He is a former board member of Stow College, Paisley First, Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Wee Stories Theatre. He is also a past Secretary of both the Scottish Confederation of University & Research Libraries (SCURL) and Higher Education IT Directors in Scotland (HEIDS).
